Venta Regional Park, established in 1992 across roughly 9,900 hectares in the Akmenė, Mažeikiai and Šiauliai districts, protects the Venta river valley and its tributaries. It's notable for the Papilė geological exposure, a rare Jurassic-period rock formation around 160 million years old containing marine fossils. A visitor center serves the park from Ožtakiai village in Telšiai district.
