Vištytis Regional Park was established in 1992 at the southwestern edge of the Suvalkija highlands, right on the border with Poland and the Kaliningrad region, to protect the distinctive upland landscape. It covers about 10,428 hectares, centered on Lake Vištytis, one of the largest and most scenic lakes in the Suvalkija region.
