Pajiesio piliakalnis

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

Pajiesio piliakalnis (Jiesios piliakalnis), also known as Napoleono kalnas, is a 63.6-meter natural hill on the left bank of the Nemunas at its confluence with the Jiesia river, near Panemunė in Kaunas. Archaeological finds at its base include coarse and fine pottery from settlements dating to the 1st millennium AD, along with cultural layers from the 14th-17th centuries. Local tradition holds that Napoleon watched his army cross the Nemunas from this hill for three days and nights in June 1812, which gave the hill its alternate name. In autumn, winter and early spring, when the trees are bare, it offers a panoramic view over Kaunas.
