Elles kalns (Hell Hill), near Veclauki in Jaunpils parish, contains a 30-meter-long underground passage believed to have been fitted with a barrel-vaulted ceiling in the late 18th century. Local legend holds that the devil lived inside - supposedly the illegitimate son of the baron from the nearby Lauku manor, banished there and forbidden to wash or cut his hair, beard, or nails.
