Ventos-Dubysos kanalo liekanos

Graži vieta, Šiaulių apskritis

Dug by hand between 1825 and 1831, this 15 kilometer channel near Skaudviliai was meant to connect the Venta and Dubysa rivers as part of a 19th century plan to link Russia's inland waterways to the Baltic Sea while bypassing Prussian-controlled ports. The canal was never finished, but its earthworks, remnant locks and a former winter harbor near Kurtuvėnai can still be seen today.
