Vieta, Zemgale
Established in 2004 to protect 144 hectares along the Vilce and Rukūze river valleys near Vilce village in Jelgava Municipality, this nature park is also a Natura 2000 site preserving slope and ravine forests together with sandstone outcrops on the Rukūze's left bank. Rare plants such as villainā gundega (uncommon elsewhere in Latvia but characteristic of Zemgale) and pūkainā asinszāle grow here, and a roughly 2 km circular route, the Barona trail, passes the Vilce hillfort, the Lielmāte spring, and the confluence of the two rivers. Entry is free, and the surrounding territory also takes in the historic Vilce manor grounds.
