Raudonės Švč. Jėzaus Širdies bažnyčia

Graži vieta, Tauragės apskritis

A chapel at this site is documented as early as 1636. Around 1930 the owner of Raudonė Manor donated half a hectare of land and two brick buildings for church use; in 1931-1932, on the initiative of priest Antanas Syrus, one building was converted into a church and a tower added, and the parish was formally established in 1932, numbering 2,167 parishioners by 1940. During wartime the parish priest was imprisoned, and the church was restored around 1954 under priest Steponas Pilka and renovated again in 2008 for the parish’s 75th anniversary; it has a low, rectangular-plan structure with a massive tower, a restored churchyard cemetery with a new fence, and a wooden angel sculpture by Romas Žarys added around 2008.
