This bathing spot sits on the shore of Kaunissaare veehoidla, a 30-hectare reservoir on the Jägala River near Kehra, in Anija Parish, Harju County. Built in 1984 as part of Tallinn's water supply system and operated by AS Tallinna Vesi, the reservoir is a popular informal swimming spot for area residents, though the water utility restricts access near intake structures and has, at times, had authorities move people along from parts of the shoreline. Anija Parish's own officially maintained swimming areas are located elsewhere, at Kehra's river bend on the Jägala, at Nikerjärv in Aegviidu, and at Purgatsi near Nelijärve.
