Kazu krāces (Goat Rapids) are artificial rapids on the Gauja River just outside central Valmiera. They originated in the 1830s-1840s, when dams were built to redirect the river's flow after it began eroding its banks and threatening nearby buildings and the church, with wooden pilings added later to reinforce the structure after major floods. The resulting channel proved suitable for a whitewater course, and a rowing/canoe slalom track was established there in 1969 that is still used for training and competitions today.
