The reservoir known locally as Vadakstes ūdens krātuve, or Klykolių tvenkinys in Lithuanian, was created in 1981 by damming the Vadakstė River near Klykoliai in the Akmenė district of Lithuania, close to the Latvian border. Its dam runs 345 meters long and 8 meters wide, holding back a body of water about 6.2 kilometers long and up to 0.36 kilometers wide, covering roughly 98 hectares. A small hydroelectric plant was added on the Latvian side of the border in 1999, tied to the same stretch of river. The Vadakstė itself flows 80 kilometers from source to mouth as a right tributary of the Venta, with 53.5 of those kilometers lying inside Lithuania.
