Kraukļukalna iezis is a sandstone rock exposure of the Gauja formation on the right bank of the Brasla River, part of the protected chain of rock outcrops known as Braslas ieži. The cliff face is cut by niches, cracks and small erosion caves formed by groundwater seepage, and in winter meltwater on the rock freezes into ice formations. The reddish, banded sandstone is visible year-round along the riverside trail.
