This church's history began in 1809 with a first chapel built for burials of the Zaleski family, owners of the nearby Kasčiukiškiai manor. Renovated in 1903, the Palomenė parish was founded in 1915 and the chapel was expanded into a full church whose exterior has remained unchanged since. During World War I, in 1915, a German military hospital occupied the church for five days, and in 1916 priest Juozapas Stasiūnas founded a parish library. The church holds a painting of St. Archangel Michael by noted Lithuanian classicist painter Pranciškus Smuglevičius, along with other works including "The Judgment of Solomon," "Joseph in Prison" and "Pieta."
