Paplūdimys, Kurzeme
This is a protected geological and geomorphological nature monument on the Baltic Sea coast in Nida, Rucava parish, South Kurzeme Municipality, inside Pape Nature Park near the Lithuanian border. It runs roughly 3.4 km along the shore and is unusual for Latvia in being a pebble beach, formed by a 25-30 meter wide ridge and a natural bank left by the retreating ancient Littorina Sea; the beach was especially stony through the 1960s-1980s. In its northern section, millennia of erosion have worn away the ridge's high dune belt entirely.
