Durbes lake observation tower

Apžvalgos vieta, Kurzeme

This 10-meter wooden viewing tower rises on the western shore of Lake Durbe, giving visitors a panoramic look over the reed-lined lake, the surrounding countryside, and the nearby town of Durbe. The lake itself covers roughly 670 hectares and serves as an important stopover for migratory birds, with 14 of Latvia's 28 specially protected bird species recorded in the area. The site was developed with a parking area, picnic tables, and a restroom accessible for visitors with mobility impairments. Lake Durbe also has historical weight: its shores were the site of the 1260 Battle of Durbe, one of the most significant Baltic military clashes of the Middle Ages.
