Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis
Northwest of Kalnujai village in what is now Raseiniai District Municipality, part of Kaunas County, stands a hillfort also referred to as the Palendriai, Jovaišiai, or Žieveliškė hillfort. Its triangular plateau runs 27 meters long and up to 13 meters wide, protected on the vulnerable southeast side by a rampart 2 meters high and 11 meters wide, with slopes falling away roughly 10 meters. Archaeologists date the site to the first millennium through the early second millennium AD and note it saw use during the wars with the crusading orders; Liudvikas Kšivickis first surveyed it in 1903, and the Lithuanian History Institute examined it again in 1961. The hillfort was adapted for visitors in 2022 and now has a swing at its summit offering views over Raseiniai. A metal-framed Star of David monument installed in 2020 commemorates the 1,677 Jews from Raseiniai and its surrounding area who were shot here in 1941.
